									THE CHARLES GUGGENHEIM CENTER
									FOR THE DOCUMENTARY FILM
									AT THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES

The Charles Guggenheim Center for the Documentary Film at the
National Archives, founded by the National Archives and Records
Administration and The National Archives Foundation in 2004,
is named in honor of Charles Guggenheim, Foundation president
emeritus who served as a voice and advocate. Devoting his life to
documentary film, his career spanned more than fifty years.

To launch and celebrate the Center, a programming partnership has
been established with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
and the National Archives to bring three Academy-conceived public
programs to Washington each year. These screenings will present
newly restored releases, centennial tributes, and Academy-Award
nominated documentaries at the National Archives William G.
McGowan Theater located on Pennsylvania Avenue near our
									nations Capitol.

Guggenheims legacy of over 500 titles will be housed and
preserved by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences/Academy
Film Archive in Los Angeles. His politically-themed films will be archived at the
John F. Kennedy Library in Boston, one of the National Archives many Presidential
									 sites around the country.

To honor Guggenheims high standards the Center will provide a premier documentary
film program, creating a forum for education through the inspiration of film,
history, and insight into the vast and treasured holdings of our National Archives,
that document and preserve the core stories of our American journey.
